Itinerary
Day 1: Dehradun to Gangotri
The journey from Dehradun to Gangotri is a scenic drive of around 258 km, taking approximately 10-11 hours. Upon arrival in Gangotri, at an elevation of 3,100 meters, you will discover the holy Gangotri Temple. Then, you can check in to your stay and prepare your Gaumukh Tapovan Trek.
Day 2: Gangotri to Chirbasa
The 9-kilometer, 6-hour hike from Gangotri to Chirbasa can begin the following day. Along this scenic path that follows the Bhagirathi River, you’ll pass through verdant forests that are home to various plants and animals. At 3,580 meters, Chirbasa offers a tranquil campsite among the majestic Himalayan peaks.
Day 3: Chirbasa to Bhojwasa
In three to four hours, you will cover the five kilometers that separate the verdant landscapes of Chirbasa and the peaceful environs of Bhojwasa on today’s Trek. The breathtaking Bhagirathi sisters and other snow-capped peaks will greet you at every turn as you go through the magical Gangotri National Park.
Day 4: Bhojwasa to Tapovan
The 9 kilometers, in 3- 4 hours of hiking between Bhojwasa and Tapovan via Gomukh, will be an experience you will always remember. As it winds through rough terrain and over gurgling streams, the trail provides views of the holy Gomukh Glacier.
The majestic Ganges River flows out of the mountain. At an elevation of 4,463 meters, Tapovan is a spiritual haven and a nature lover’s paradise.
Day 5: Tapovan to Bhojwasa
The breathtaking scenery of glacial lakes and towering peaks makes Tapovan the perfect place for photography enthusiasts and those seeking deep introspection. Take a leisurely walk to Nil Tal, a tranquil lake reflecting the blue sky and snow-capped mountains. Then it would help if you headed back to your Tapovan campsite.
Day 6: From Bhojwasa to Gangotri
Return to Gangotri on foot, a journey of about 9 km that will take you about 5- 6 hours. Take a moment to soak in the breathtaking views of the Bhagirathi Mountains and the river that feeds the lush valleys below.
Day 7: Return Dehradun
Drive the last leg of your epic Gaumukh Tapovan Trek back to Dehradun from Gangotri; the drive is about 240 km and should take 10 to 11 hours.
