Itinerary
Day 1: Rishikesh-Sari
This trek’s base camp, Sari, is an eight-hour journey from Rishikesh via Devprayag, the sacred confluence of the Bhagirathi and Alakananda rivers. Sari, a 100-house community, charms visitors with its clean paddy fields, beautiful views, and kind inhabitants. Occasionally, you can see Mt Chandrashila’s top from here.
Day 2: Sari-Deoriatal
Start your experience by hiking from Sari to Deoriatal on a well-marked rocky trail. Mountainous terrain rises gradually. After 30 minutes of steady uphill climbing, you reach the first viewpoint. Enjoy the stunning mountain and valley vistas.
Return to the trail via a maple and rhododendron forest. Another 40-minute trek brings you to Deoriatal, your overnight camp. Garhwal’s fairytale-like lake, Deoriatal, encircled by snow-clad mountains, is a famous trekking destination.
The view of Mt. Chaukhamba above Deoriatal is extremely impressive. You’ll have time before dark to explore the campsite’s paths or relax in the tranquillity.
Day 3: Deoriatal to Syalmi via Rohini Bugyal
Wildlife lovers would like the Deoriatal-Chandrashila trek in Kedarnath Wildlife Sanctuary. The third-day trail is beautiful, surrounded by rhododendron and maple trees. Through the trees, you can see Kedar Dome and Chaukhamba peaks.
Rhododendrons bloom red and pink on the trail in March and April. On your route to Syalmi campground, you’ll pass Rohini Bugyal, a lovely meadow with a rhododendron woodland and views of the Kedar Dome and Kala Parvat peaks.
Day 4: Baniya Kund, Syalmi
Today, you’ll walk 6 km via Tikidi Khal, a dense woodland ridge with a little meadow.
Day 5: Baniya Kund to Chopta | Trek from Tungnath to Chandrashila Peak and Sari
Get up early to see Tungnath’s magnificent dawn. A 3 km concrete-bound trail connects Chopta with Tungnath. Before reaching Chandrashila mountain, observe the world’s tallest Shiva temple. The peak rises 1.5 kilometers above the temple complex.
Winter snow covers this trail, making the climb from Tungnath to Chandrashila difficult and 600 feet long. But the pinnacle vistas are unmatched! The most famous mountains of Uttarakhand are Nanda Devi, Trishul, Nandaghunti, Kamet, Dunagiri, Chaukhamba, Kedar Dome, Thalaysagar, Gangotri ranges, Jahanukut, and others. This area has a modest temple.
