Trek Summary
At an elevation of 15,580 feet, the Kedartal Trek is situated in the Garhwal range of the Himalayas. Because of the occasional difficulty, this walk is best suited for hikers with some experience.
This hike is worth doing because you will be hiking to the breathtaking glacial emerald lake. The snow-capped peaks of numerous mountains, including Thalaysagar, Manda Parvat, Brighupath, Gangotri, Bhagiratji, and Mount Meru, will captivate you as you begin to climb.
Itinerary
Day 1: Arrive in Gangotri
From Gangotri in Uttarakhand, one can begin the Kedartal Trek. Make your initial arrival in Gangotri on the first day. In this, you can experience all that Gangotri sightseeing. Spend the night in a nearby inn.
Day 2: Gangotri Acclimatisation
You can relax and get used to the altitude in Gangotri on this day.
Day 3: Trekking from Gangotri to Bhoj Kharak
The first campsite, Bhoj Kharak, is the one you’ll climb towards. Looking down from a distance, the breathtakingly ragged façade of Thalaysagar beckons you to come and see what Day 3 has in store.
The Spider Wall, a 60-degree rock slab with barely enough footing to reach the other end, is the last task for the day. Spend the night in Bhoj Kharak’s tents.
Day 4: Trekking from Bhoj Kharak to Kedar Kharak
The next day leads to a stable trail that descends to the river bed of the Kedar Ganga. You’ll need to cross it partially before returning to solid ground. Once you cross it, you’ll find yourself at your next campsite, Kedar Kharak. A breathtaking campsite stands among the majestic Drigubanth, Thalaysagar, and Jogin 3 mountains. Stay there overnight.
Day 5: Trekking from Kedar Kharak to Kedar Tal and back again
Three ridges, mostly made of deposited boulders with an occasional ground trail at the top of each, make up the last leg leading to the picturesque Kedar Tal. After you’ve topped out on the first two ridges, you can see the last one in the distance and wonder what else is out there.
Reaching the bottom of the third ridge, you’ll see Kedar Tal Lake, which looks like a frozen emerald. You can descend and return to Kedar Kharak after saying goodbye to the holy Kedar Tal. Spend the night in tents.
Day 6: Trekking from Kedar Kharak to Gangotri
Down in Gangotri, you’ll find the opportunity to witness the world-famous aarti as your reward. Then prepare to return home.
Day 7: Gangotri – Uttarkashi – Dehradun
If you arrange transportation through a tour operator, a vehicle will collect you from Gangotri and drop you off in Dehradun by the end of the day.
