Trek Summary

Ali Bedni Bugyal Trek opens its magnificent world of vast meadows rolling under your feet as you bend your neck to admire the Garhwal Himalayas’ most majestic peaks. This walk has something unmissable in every direction, so you won’t know where to look.

The best views of these mountains are from Bedni Top at 3,803M. No matter the season, this trip greets you with open arms, its wide expanses, green carpet in summer and snowy rug in winter, dense canopy of alpine trees, and rich bloom of wildflowers and rhododendrons.

Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive at Lohajung

The tour begins with an arduous drive through Kumaon into Garhwal’s Himalayas. There are many highways and the Shivalik hills in the distance. The river runs fast along this peaceful stretch.

We cross three of the five Alaknanda River confluences (Devprayag, Rudraprayag, and Karnaprayag) on our approach to Lohajung. Lohajung, in Chamoli, Garhwal Himalayas, approximately 86 miles from Karnaprayag. Expect to reach Lohajung around 8-9 PM.

Day 2: Lohajung to Tolpani

Our first day of trekking takes us to Tolpani’s woods, one of the most stunning campsites. Our 8 AM departure follows an early breakfast. Today’s 7.5-kilometre walk begins at 0830 AM. The day begins with a 1.5-km descent to Neel Ganga’s pristine waters.

This 200M descent should take 40 minutes. After descending to the river, we cross to ascend the opposite slopes. In 4.5 hours, we reach our campsite, a small clearing at the edge of the heavy forest, after 820M of ascent.

Day 3: Tolpani to Ali Bugyal

After sunrise, we leave camp at 09:00 AM for the first twin burials. Like yesterday, we climbed uphill through dense forest. After a brief reprieve, we climb another 200M with the rustle of leaves under our feet, the smell of the forest, and a view of the mountain peaks on the other side.

Our maximum height today is 3450M. Expect to reach the campsite by late afternoon after 650M of ascent. Our trip has no water sources today, so bring enough from the campsite to survive the day.

Day 4: Ali Bugyal to Gehroli Patal via Bedni Top

This campsite has a wonderful morning view! Sunrise turns the mountain outside your tent honeydew-colored. Bedni Top, the trek’s greatest altitude, was our second climax today after a captivating introduction to one of the burials yesterday.

We start early, at 8:00 AM, to maximise time on top. Cover up since the wind is wild here. We descend in 30 minutes and return to our campsite after a busy day. Our trip has no water sources today, so bring enough from the campsite to survive the day.

Day 5: Gehroli Patal to Lohajung via Wan Village

We have one more highlight before this tour ends. After a healthy breakfast, we start our day around 8:30. We reach 2620M and immerse our tired feet in the river in minutes. We’ve covered 2.5 km today. We leave for Dehradun at 9 AM after breakfast. In reverse order, we cross Karnaprayag, Rudraprayag, and Devprayag again.
